About Procedure:

Ears are almost fully grown at age 4

Can decrease the ear projection

Tends to make ears appear less prominent

Anesthesia:

IV Sedation / Local Anesthetic (possible if patient older than age 12)

General Anesthetic (most commonly used)

Known Risks:
|

Bleeding, hematomas, infection, pain, scarring, changes in ear sensation, delayed wound healing, swelling, asymmetry, skin contour irregularities,
recurrance of protruding ear appearance, bruising, pigment changes
|

Preop preparations:
|

No antiinflammatory medications for 2 weeks prior to, or after the surgery

Patient in good health
|
|
Recovery:
|
-
No exercise or strenuous activity for 3 weeks
-
Can usually return to work after 3-5 day
-
Head dressings for 3-5 days post op
-
Use of head band for sleeping 6 months
