About Procedure: |

Saline implants used most commonly

Silicone implants now approved
(Nov 17, 2006) for adults at least 22 years old
- Axillary (armpit), submammary, or periareolar incisions may be used
- Submuscular or submammary placement of implant (submuscular is preferred)

Risks: |
Known Risks: Bleeding, hematomas, infection, capsular contracture (hardening of scar around implant), deflation (rupture), changes in nipple or
breast sensation, delayed wound healing, shifting of implants, pain, calcium deposits, interference with mammograrns, scarring, stretch marks, movement of implant with muscle flexion,
swelling, asymmetry, skin contour irregularities, lactation
Unknown Risks: Autoimmune diseases, breast feeding, cancer, capsular contracture, pregnancy
Gel Implants: Exposure to silicone gel, rupture with gel migration, silent rupture, silicone bleed, granuloma formation, need for future tests (MRIs),

Preop preparations: |
-
No anti-inflammatory medications for 2 week prior to or after the surgery
-
Patient in good health
|
| Recovery: |
- No exercise or strenuous activity for 3 weeks
- Can usually return to work after 3-5 days
- Vitamin E 400 IU's twice a day for 3 months
- Breast massage four times a day
- Use of a support Bra for 3 weeks
